Leeward Renewable Energy has completed the construction of its Panorama Wind Farm in Weld County, Colorado. The energy generated will provide Guzman Energy customers with enough renewable energy to power approximately 53,000 homes across Colorado and New Mexico.

Leeward and Guzman Energy hosted a ceremonial ribbon-cutting event at the Panorama Wind Farm Tuesday to celebrate the start of operations at the facility.

“We are pleased to have achieved commercial operations at the Panorama Wind Farm in partnership with Guzman Energy to help them deliver reliable renewable energy to their customers,” said Jason Allen, CEO of Leeward. “This project brings our total generation capacity in Weld County to over 600 MW, illustrating the momentum of our ambitious growth plan and continued commitment to developing, owning and operating best-in-class renewable generation assets. We are proud that our three Weld County projects — Panorama, Cedar Creek and Mountain Breeze — support the state of Colorado in meeting its goal of 100% green energy generation by 2040.”

The Panorama Wind Farm has 66 Vestas wind turbines with the capacity to generate 145 MW of clean energy. The project created 185 jobs during peak construction and will provide permanent renewable energy jobs and property tax contributions to Weld County.

“We are very appreciative of those landowners, Weld County officials and our financial and construction partners who have played a critical role in the success of the project,” said John Wycherley, VP of development at Leeward. “The completion of this project would not have been possible without their support, and we look forward to continuing these long-term relationships as we operate the facility going forward.”

Leeward Renewable Energy successfully repowered the Crescent Ridge Wind Project in Tiskilwa, Illinois. The 54.4-MW Crescent Ridge repower included decommissioning nine turbines, repowering 24 legacy turbines and constructing four new Vestas turbines.

“We are pleased that our Crescent Ridge project is operational and are proud to have provided jobs and other economic benefits to the Tiskilwa community throughout the construction and repower process,” said Sam Mangrum, VP of project management and construction at Leeward. “I would like to thank the local landowners for their support and look forward to continue working closely with them in the years to come.”

The project will help Amazon meet its goal to reach net-zero carbon production by 2040 and get one step closer to powering its operations with 100% renewable energy by 2025, 5 years ahead of the original 2030 target.

“This project gave Leeward the opportunity to work with multiple new and existing partners,” said Chris Loehr, CFO at Leeward. “We were thrilled to continue our strong relationship with Wells Fargo and Santander in financing the construction and ongoing operations. The respective commitments made by these established companies demonstrates their confidence in our technology and team to deliver clean, reliable energy.”

Renewable company, Diamond WTG Engineering & Services, Inc. (a group company of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd., and Leeward Renewable Energy), announced that Leeward has extended for 10 years Diamond’s Maintenance & Service Agreements (MSAs) for five of their wind energy projects in the U.S.

The combined capacity of these renewable energy assets totals 564-MW, and the projects spread across four different states: California, Colorado, New Mexico, and Texas.

Diamond will provide service for 5 Leeward wind projects totaling more than 3,500-MW.

“We are proud that Leeward Renewable Energy has selected Diamond to service its wind farms which, in turn, contribute to America’s energy independence,” said Harm Toren, President and CEO of Diamond.

“Their decision is a reflection of the quality of our technicians, our commitment to client service and the trust Leeward has in our ability to address all aspects of wind turbine operations,” he added.

Diamond and Leeward finalized the extension of customized Maintenance & Service Agreements under which Diamond will be responsible for the performance of scheduled maintenance, minor corrective repairs, gearbox management, and supply of spare parts for the following wind projects:

  • Aragonne Mesa, 90-MW (New Mexico)
  • Buena Vista, 38-MW (California)
  • Caprock, 80-MW (New Mexico)
  • Cedar Creek, 221-MW (Colorado)
  • Sweet Water 3, 135-MW (Texas)

“Diamond will continue the expansion of its ISP business focusing on quality solutions optimizing reliability and reducing total cost of energy,” said Toren.

“These agreements further enhance Leeward’s ability to manage the level and variability of post-warranty wind farm costs,” added Leeward’s Chief Executive Officer Greg Wolf. “Leeward prioritizes refining and implementing its response strategies to contain operating costs while maintaining safe, efficient operations.”
