A gearbox, as a part of a wind turbine, is used to step-up the rotor speed to the generator speed. The gears in a gearbox connect the low-speed shaft to the high-speed shaft, resulting in high-rotational speed of generator shaft from the low-rotational speed of turbine blades.

The gearbox in a wind turbine doesn’t change gears; it maintains a single-gear ratio between the rotation of the rotor and that of the generator. The gears convert low speed and high torque to low torque and high speed. This high-speed shaft produces electricity inside the generator.

TechNavio’s analysts forecast the Global Wind Turbine Gearbox Market to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 8% in terms of capacity, and 6.1% in terms of revenue during the period 2014-2019.
