Enel signs deals to buy 3.5 GW of wind turbines in U.S.

By Michelle Froese | January 17, 2017

Enel Green Power North America (EGPNA) has signed master supply agreements with three separate top-tier wind-turbine manufacturers to support the future development of about 3.5 GW of new wind capacity in the U.S. The projects are not yet under construction.

EGPNA has more than 2.8 GW of managed renewable capacity, of which over 2.4 GW come from wind power.

“Through these agreements we will continue our strategy to grow in wind and invest in the U.S., seeking to nearly double our operating capacity over the next four years,” said Rafael Gonzalez, Head of EGPNA.

“This purchase further strengthens our position in the market as a leader in renewable energy and will also lead to millions in local economic investment and the creation of thousands of jobs as we execute the construction and operation of these plants,” Gonazlez added.

In 2017, EGPNA is expected to complete 800 MW of wind and solar capacity, which include:

  • The remaining 200 MW of the 400-MW Cimarron Bend, the company’s largest wind project in the world,
  • The 300-MW Rock Creek wind project in Missouri,
  • The 150-MW Lindahl wind project in North Dakota and
  • The 150-MWdc Aurora solar project, the company’s largest solar facility in the U.S.

EGPNA is currently present in 23 U.S. states and two Canadian provinces. It has more than 2.8 GW of managed capacity, of which over 2.4 GW come from wind energy.
