ZF has officially taken over the industrial gears and turbine gearbox business from Bosch Rexroth, extending its gearbox reach to turbines up to 8 MW.

As of December of this year, technology company ZF will officially take over the industrial gears and wind-turbine gearbox business from Bosch Rexroth AG. Various product lines will be brought together in the new ZF Industrial Gears business unit based in Witten, Germany. A total of 1,200 employees at Bosch’s U.S. and Beijing locations will officially join ZF.

“With the newly created Industrial Gears business unit we intend to get things moving on a large scale,” says the ZF Chief Executive Officer Dr. Stefan Sommer. “We are extending our portfolio with large transmissions for industrial applications and mobile machinery…the product range will also be extended in the Wind Power Technology business unit with gearboxes for turbines generating up to eight megawatts.”

Two newly founded companies will be added to the Industrial Gears business unit: ZF Industrieantriebe Witten GmbH and the ZF Powertrain Systems (Beijing) Co., Ltd. The German location is headquarters for the business unit, which is home to Administration and Production, as well as the Department for large gearbox technologies (industrial gears and wind turbine gearboxes). It’s also the production location of ZF’s existing Wind Power Technology business unit, which is headquartered in Lommel, Belgium.

ZF has appointed Christoph Kainzbauer, an experienced manager in the field of large gearbox technology, to head up the Industrial Gears business unit. He was previously responsible for global Sales of Bosch Rexroth’s large gearbox segment.

Gearboxes for ZF’s wind-power segment will also be produced at the Beijing location, extending the company’s presence in the wind gearbox market in China.

“We see ideal future opportunities for the Industrial Technology division, especially in wind-power technology,” shared Wilhelm Rehm, responsible for Corporate Materials Management and Industrial Technology on the ZF Board of Management.

Technology company ZF enters industrial gears market and strengthens its wind turbine gearbox business

Technology company ZF enters industrial gears market by acquiring Bosch Rexroth’s wind turbine gearbox business.

ZF Friedrichshafen will take over Bosch Rexroth’s gearbox business, providing an entry into the industrial gear market and strengthening ZF’s position in the gearbox industry. The agreement was signed on May 13, 2015, but is still subject to the approval of the antitrust authorities.

“Strengthening our non-automotive segment is an important objective of our long-term corporate strategy,” says ZF’s CEO Dr. Stefan Sommer, commenting on the transaction. “The acquisition of the industrial gears and wind turbine gearbox segments of Bosch Rexroth AG is an excellent supplement to our Industrial Technology portfolio and opens up new customer groups.”

In 2014, Bosch Rexroth generated sales of approximately EUR 300 million with the large gearbox business. In the same year, ZF generated roughly 12% of its group sales with the Industrial Technology division in which the company bundles its off-road activities. This share is expected to grow in the long term.

ZF is taking over the two production locations of Bosch Rexroth AG in Witten (North Rhine-Westphalia/Germany) with almost 900 employees and in Beijing (China) with more than 300 employees, as well as the service location in Lake Zurich (USA) that has approximately 15 employees for a total of more than 1,200 employees.

The primary plant in Witten is not only home to production but also to the administration, development, and sales departments for large gearbox technologies (industrial gears and wind turbine gearboxes). In Beijing, Bosch Rexroth exclusively produces wind turbine gearboxes. At both locations and in Lake Zurich, the company offers its customers support services.

“We are confident that our large gearbox business will benefit from ZF’s transmission expertise, and be able to make the best possible use of its growth opportunities in the new unit to be created at ZF,” says Karl Tragl, Chairman of the Executive Board of Bosch Rexroth. He adds that Bosch Rexroth has successfully advanced the business in recent years. “We have specifically broadened our product range with the development of the new wind turbine gearboxes for the weak wind segment,” says Tragl. In future, Bosch Rexroth will focus more intensively on the core business with industrial and mobile applications.

“We are looking forward to working together with experienced staff with more than 30 years of development and production know-how for wind turbine gearboxes and even over half a century of expertise in industrial gears,” explains Wilhelm Rehm, responsible for Corporate Materials Management and Industrial Technology on the ZF Board of Management. “We take account of this by making Witten the headquarters of our new Industrial Drives business unit.”

The two companies have agreed not to disclose the purchase price. The takeover is subject to approval by the antitrust authorities.

Nearly 300 product additions, shorter lead times, and a GoTo Products app covering North America highlight Fall enhancements to Rexroth’s fast delivery program. 2014 also marks the GoTo Program’s 5th anniversary.

Rexroth’s GoTo Focused Delivery Program has expanded in North America with 300 product additions, shorter lead times, and a newly updated GoTo Products app for all NA customers.

Rexroth’s GoTo Focused Delivery Program has expanded in North America with 300 product additions, shorter lead times, and a newly updated GoTo Products app for all NA customers.

Bosch Rexroth’s GoTo Focused Delivery Program, originally launched in the U.S. in 2009, is celebrating its 5th year of providing fast deliveries of the company’s most widely used drive and control products. To mark this important milestone, Rexroth has just added nearly 300 additional products to the program, shortened lead times even further, and released an all-new GoTo Products app for customers across North America.

The GoTo Program, which started in the U.S. with just over 1,000 part numbers in April 2009, now offers more than three-and-a-half times the original offering. Rexroth also continues to shorten lead times within the program; 98% of the products in the program ship in fewer than 10 days. Key new additions to the program include AA4G series 32 and AA10VG pumps for mobile hydraulics applications, as well as an expansion of the compact directional valve portfolio. Industrial hydraulics enhancements feature the addition of A15VSO and  AA4VSO widely used new pumps available from local U.S. inventories for the first time.

The latest GoTo update also boasts product additions across all drive and control technology product lines: Size 25 roller rail runner blocks are included in the linear motion GoTo offering for the first time, as are new freely configurable electromechanical cylinders. Lead-time improvements and increased quantity limits highlight the electric drives and controls offerings, with MSK and MSM servo motors, as well as system cables  now available in 10 days. In the area of assembly technologies, the latest additions expand the GoTo range of accessories for ergonomic workstations, including a new line of ergonomic work chairs.

The updates are reflected in all of the latest catalogs at all three country websites: www.boschrexroth-us.com/GoTo , www.boschrexroth.ca/GoTo , and www.boschrexroth.com.mx/GoTo. Most importantly, Rexroth’s GoTo Products app has been fully updated to support customers anywhere in North America. With the just-released version 4.0 for iPad, iPhone, and Android users in Canada, Mexico and the U.S. can retrieve local pricing, find their local salesperson or distributor, add products to a shopping cart and email it for a quote. The app also features new capabilities for sharing app content via social media, the creation of multiple wishlists for easy re-ordering of products, and quick access to numerous how-to videos and other useful content. App users can instantly retrieve all of the updates by using the application’s sync-on-demand feature at any time after installation.

Central Europe, Brazil and many other countries have also introduced the benefits of streamlined access to GoTo products to their customers as well. Check your local websites for more information. For a complete listing, visit our international website at:
