Why training in bolting matters

Most people in the bolting industry know Hooke’s law which states, “stress is directly proportional to strain.” For bolts, it means that their stretch (strain) is proportional to load. That simple expression is also the critical tenet in Controlled Bolting Training (CBT). However, not all bolt training is equivalent. The training standard chosen for a company’s technicians and customers will have a major impact on safety, project outcomes, and customer service. After nearly 27 years in the bolting business, the one thing I know for certain is that critical bolting applications must be executed by knowledgeable technicians and highly-educated customers.

When bolting technicians cannot come to training on a new tool or a refresher, the mobile classroom ensures that training can come to them.

When bolting technicians cannot come to training on a new tool or a refresher, the mobile classroom ensures that training can come to them.

A partnership with Enerpac lets us better educate clients with CBT courses at no charge. A meticulously compiled program includes discussions of tool, repairs, maintenance, and safe use of high-pressure hydraulic tools. Classes offered include bolting theory, joint components, bolt load and gasket compression, joint alignment, torquing, and bolt tensioning. Operating high-pressure hydraulic tools requires sound knowledge that should be regularly maintained by refresher courses. The payoff includes effective use of tools that boosts safety and reduces risk. This program lets clients train new employees in the proper use of a wide range of tools as well as continuing education for current employees. The training courses are interactive and benefit from a highly diverse program that puts the best bolting practices to work right away.

Mobile classrooms are also fully equipped to provide CBT along with other services where needed. Trained and certified technicians assure us that the mobile fleet will educate users in the field with the highest expertise available. We know quantitatively that we are sending experts into the field, and that their knowledge and experience will advance client projects, save man-hours, increase production, and reduce downtime.

Any company should want to stay ahead of its moving market. Companies must be vigilant in regards to their controlled bolting training so they can adapt to their customers’ changing and growing needs because every bolt matters. WPE
