Guzman Energy and Leeward Renewable Energy have executed a power purchase agreement (PPA) for the 145-MW Panorama Wind Farm in Weld County, Colorado.

The project will be Leeward’s third project in Weld County, bringing its total installed capacity in the county to 617 MW, reflecting an aggregate capital investment of over $850 million.

“Electric cooperatives, municipalities and tribes are clear that they want access to affordable, reliable and clean energy. The Panorama Wind Farm will be an important source of power for our current and future customers in Colorado, New Mexico and Wyoming who are seeking reliable power at reliable prices,” said Guzman Energy CEO Chris Riley. “It makes strategic sense for Guzman Energy to be part of the Panorama Wind Farm as we continually leverage both owned and contracted energy sources to meet our customers’ needs.”

The Panorama Wind Farm is expected to generate enough electricity to power approximately 53,000 homes and will contribute to Colorado’s goal of 100% green energy generation by 2040. Additionally, the project will create 185 jobs during peak construction and permanent renewable energy jobs in the community.

“Leeward is pleased to partner with Guzman and provide an important source of affordable, clean power to its customers in communities across Colorado, New Mexico and Wyoming,” said Jason Allen, Leeward CEO. “In addition to helping Colorado meet its green energy goals, this agreement is a testament to the momentum of our ambitious growth plan and continued commitment to wind power.”

Construction of the facility begins in early July and is projected to be completed in December 2021. The Panorama Wind Farm will consist of over 60 wind turbines supplied and commissioned by Vestas-American Wind Technology. Leeward will own and operate the wind farm.

Holy Cross Energy (HCE), a nonprofit rural electric cooperative based in Western Colorado, announced a renewable energy swap agreement with Colorado wholesale energy company Guzman Energy. This two-way power purchase agreement (PPA) will allow the development of a new 100-MW wind farm to serve HCE’s members. Once the new wind resources enter service in 2021, the PPA will fulfill HCE’s commitment to clean energy and greenhouse gas reduction goals as outlined in its seventy70thirty plan earlier this year.

Energy cooperative Holy Cross Energy and wholesale energy company Guzman Energy made a renewable energy agreement, and the two-way PPA will spur the development of a 100-MW wind farm for HCE members.

“With today’s announcement, HCE continues to lead the responsible transition to a clean energy future, while maintaining affordable and reliable electricity to our members,” said Bryan Hannegan, president and CEO of HCE. “Our new partnership with Guzman Energy will raise the amount of renewable energy in our power supply mix to almost 70% by 2021 — nine years earlier than promised.”

Additionally, Guzman Energy will utilize, as necessary, HCE’s stake in Unit 3 of the Comanche Generating Station in Pueblo, Colorado, a 750-MW coal-fired generating unit. This resource will supplement the 250 MW of renewable energy that will be built as part of Guzman’s recent renewable RFP.

All resources will be used to serve Guzman’s wholesale customers in New Mexico and Colorado and together will result in a capacity mix that is approximately 75% renewable.

“This deal allows HCE to meet their renewable energy goals without increasing cost, adds more renewables to the grid in the West and supplements Guzman’s overall resource mix with reliable baseload, as needed,” said Jeff Heit, managing director with Guzman Energy. “It’s another example of what can be accomplished if stakeholders work together to find innovative ways to transition to the new energy economy.”

Guzman Energy, a wholesale power provider based in Colorado, announced that it is seeking Requests for Proposal (RFP) for the addition of up to 250 MW of renewable energy to serve their expanding load portfolio in the Rocky Mountain region.

Guzman specifically seeks cost-competitive bids for 200 MW of wind and 50 MW of solar power, including a requirement that 100 MW of wind be in commercial operation no later than July 1, 2021.

In addition, Guzman Energy has obtained a $200 million capital commitment to help facilitate implementing the additional renewable energy.

“This is a significant expansion of our commitment to help facilitate the transition of the energy landscape in the West to a more sustainable and competitive future,” said Jeffrey Heit, Guzman’s head of origination. “The renewable resources will be used to serve Guzman’s loads throughout the West, primarily in Colorado and New Mexico.”
