The proposed Grain Belt Express project is an approximately 780-mile, overhead, direct-current transmission line that would deliver wind energy from western Kansas to Missouri, Illinois, Indiana and neighboring states.

The proposed Grain Belt Express project is an approximately 780-mile, overhead, direct-current transmission line that would deliver wind energy from western Kansas to Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, and neighboring states.

Invenergy, a global privately-held developer and operator of sustainable energy solutions, announced its plan to acquire all the development assets of the Grain Belt Express transmission project, pending appropriate regulatory approvals.

The new transmission infrastructure is critical to supporting significant additions of renewable and clean generation sources to the nation’s electricity mix.

According to Invenergy, adding the Grain Belt Express to the more than 400 miles of transmission infrastructure that the company has already successfully developed in the U.S. will provide American homes and businesses with access to some of the lowest-cost renewable energy in the country.

The company has successfully developed over 20,000 MW of renewable and other clean energy generation and storage projects. In fact, in 2017 Invenergy directly invested more than $135 million in the communities that are home to the company’s projects and employees.

Development of the Grain Belt Express will further Invenergy’s commitment to rural economic development and job creation.
