Nordex successfully installs first N131 3.3-MW turbine

The upgraded N131 3.3-MW has a 131-m rotor diameter and a nominal output that’s 10% higher than that its predecessor.

Nordex installed the first N131/3300 turbine in Germany, four months after the unveiling of the up-graded model. The low-wind turbine was especially designed for inland sites.

The first was installed ahead of schedule at the Krampfer Wind Farm in Brandenburg for project developer, VOSS Energy GmbH.

Originally six turbines were planned for this site with a delivery date in January. But since the N131/3300 already obtained the certificates on the type test, VOSS Energy decided to substitute one of the Delta machines with the up-rated model in late December.

Depending on the site, the turbine should produce higher yields between 4 and 5% as compared to the older model. Nordex will install the remaining five N131/3000 turbines this month.

The early delivery of this turbine, especially the large components, was possible because of the flexible logistical plans and good collaboration with the responsible authorities. After commissioning, Nordex will start making the necessary measurements to validate the power curve and verify the sound power level.

As with its sister turbine, the N131/3000, the guaranteed maximum sound power level of the N131/3300 is 104.5 dB(A). The former machine fell short of this level by more than one dB(A) according the measurements made in the field to date.
