WFEC has signed an agreement with Akuo Energy to purchase renewable energy from the Sterling Wind Farm in New Mexico.

Akuo Energy USA has signed of a 30-MW Renewable Energy Purchase Agreement (REPA) with Western Farmers Electric Cooperative (WFEC).

The renewable energy will be provided from the Sterling Wind Farm, which will be located near the city of Tatum, in Lea County New Mexico. Western Farmers Electric has agreed to purchase the output from the 30-MW project for a span of 15 years.

“We are pleased to sign this renewable energy purchase agreement with Western Farmers Electric Cooperative, the largest locally owned power supply system in the region,” said Thomas Coté, CEO of Akuo Energy USA. “The REPA for the Sterling Wind Farm is the second project for Akuo to reach this milestone in the past 12 months. We look forward to continuing our collaboration with WFEC, a company with 75 years of experience in electric power supply including generation and transmission to its 21 member cooperatives including Lea County Electric Cooperative, and is a leader in the deployment of renewable energy.”

The property, which is located in the Alta Wind Energy Center, also includes 82,000 square feet of manufacturing and office space.

“The acquisition of the Tehachapi site is a significant transaction for Landmark Dividend. It provides us with a great foundation in one of the largest wind centers in North America. In addition, the lease with NRG and the power-purchase agreement with Southern California Edison made this very attractive,” said VP Peter Kleinberg, who led the transaction for Landmark Dividend.

The acquisition underscores Landmark Dividend’s continued expansion in the renewable energy industry. Landmark is aggressively seeking additional real-estate acquisition opportunities for utility-scale renewable energy projects.

In a joint venture, EDF Energies plans to install 142 MW of wind-power capacity in India by the end of 2016.

As part of its expansion in India, EDF Energies Nouvelles is moving into onshore wind energy by acquiring a 50% stake in SITAC Wind Management and Development, an Indian wind energy company.

In the presence of the President of France during his recent visit to India and the Indian Prime Minister, Jean-Bernard Levy, Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of EDF Group, sealed the partnership agreement with Malvinder Singh, the founder and majority shareholder of the Indian SITAC Group.

The joint venture plans to install 142-MW capacity by the end of the year.

This joint venture has now become EDF Energies Nouvelles’ wind energy subsidiary in India. It is jointly owned by the SITAC Group specialized in real estate and, which has developed its wind expertise in India since 2007.

The partnership between SITAC and EDF Energies Nouvelles aims to cover every section of the wind energy market — from the development, construction, and financing of wind farms in India, to their operations & maintenance.

In 2016, four projects with a total of 142 MW in installed capacity will be completed. Located in the state of Gujarat, one of the windiest of India, they hold a 25-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) signed with GUVNL, the local electricity distribution company.

The joint venture has promising future opportunities in the country.
