Last week, opponents of Ohio’s House Bill 6 submitted a second summary petition to the Ohio Attorney General and Secretary of State in its effort to stop the legislation’s billion dollar bailout of two nuclear power plants and the removal of the state’s renewable energy standards.
Ohioans Against Corporate Bailouts has filed a second summary petition in an effort to revise House Bill 6.
In July, Ohio Senate and House concurred on HB 6 in a 51 – 38 vote, which means a new energy tax on Ohio electric customers and a step back for clean energy in the state.
The new campaign’s submission has included revised summary petition language and the signatures of 2,246 Ohio voters. Each office now has 10 business days to certify the petition.
“Ohio voters have a Constitutionally guaranteed process to weigh in on this shameful corporate bailout for FirstEnergy Solutions and the dismantling of Ohio’s renewable energy standards,” said Pierce. “We intend to give voters that opportunity and wholeheartedly believe Ohioans will put a stop to it,”
Upon approval, the referendum campaign will begin collecting the roughly 265,000 signatures of Ohio voters needed to place the issue on the November, 2020 ballot.
The deadline for the signatures is October 21, 2019.
Ohioans Against Corporate Bailouts is a ballot issue committee opposed to House Bill 6 that seeks to place a referendum of the bill on the November 2020 ballot.

Where can I sign a petition to get this on the ballot? Haven’t seen or heard of anyone in Huron County with these petitions. The citizens of Ohio should make this decision not the politicians.

House Bill 6 appears to be short sighted (bailout) vs. long term strategy (most efficient energy evolution)
HB6 was an insult to all businesses and citizens in Ohio because it automatically raised their electric rates for the benefit of one company, FirstEnergy Solutions. It is a sad day that we cannot trust our elected officials to do the right thing. Come November next year, we will retract HB6.
