New U.S. offshore wind training courses to start in March

By Michelle Froese | February 6, 2019

New academy at UD to train offshore wind energy professionals

New academy at the University of Delaware to train offshore wind energy professionals, starting in March 2019.

The northeast states in the U.S. have committed to 10,000 MW of offshore wind to be built in the next 10 years. But to do that, it is important to train the professionals, managers, and newcomers to the industry who can deliver on this promise.

That’s where Offshore Wind Skills Academy at the University of Delaware comes in. It is an innovative partnership with the Energy and Climate Academy of Denmark and next month, the Academy will launch its effort to provide instruction in the basics of wind power, offshore wind turbines, and the development of offshore wind projects to professionals from traditional energy industries, supply chain companies, regulators, investors and others.

This is the first offshore wind skills training program in the United States to focus on professionals and managers seeking to enter the industry.

Three courses will be offered:

  • Overview of Offshore Wind: One-day short course on March 11
  • Comprehensive Introduction to Offshore Wind: Two-day introduction on March 11 & 12
  • Offshore Wind Project Development: Three-day advanced course on March 13 to 15

All courses will be held on the Newark Campus, University of Delaware Science, Technology and Advanced Research (STAR) Campus, 540 S. College Avenue.
