Rocky Mountain Power (RMP) plans to host an event this week about the company’s $3.1 billion Energy Vision 2020 project.
Energy Vision 2020 is RMP’s plan to add more wind power and transmission in Wyoming, as well as make the state’s existing wind turbines more efficient. The initiative includes three new Wyoming wind farms that are expected to provide 1,150 MW of wind power.
The Wyoming wind initiative is expected to create up to 1,600 construction jobs, create more than 100 full-time positions, and add millions of dollars in local taxes. Learn more here.
The new wind power represents approximately a 60% expansion of PacifiCorp’s currently owned and contracted wind fleet. (PacifiCorp is operates as Rocky Mountain Power in Wyoming, Utah, and Idaho.)
The project will also add a 140-mile high-voltage transmission line in Wyoming that will connect more wind energy to PacifiCorp’s transmission system. Additionally, the company’s Energy Vision 2020 initiative will upgrade, or “repower,” the company’s existing wind farms with longer blades and newer technology to boost output and extend the life of the projects, the release states.
The event is expected to take place on June 5 at 10am, at Seven Mile Wind Farm, 2681 U.S. Highway 30 in Hanna. Attendees will include county commissioners, state and local officials, Rocky Mountain Power, and PacifiCorp leadership and residents.
