International Wind Congress is taking place in Berlin, Germany, on November 7-8, 2022. RE:WIND 2022 gathers developers, operators, EPC(I)s and electricity TSO to network, build partnerships, find new leads, and to influence the future development.

The Congress brings together key clean energy players to discuss the latest trends of the industry and the potential for market growth in European wind. Among participants are representatives of Energinet, Maple Power, The Scottish Government, Hexicon, Equinor.

Floating turbines are designed to float in the water allowing offshore wind development where the water is too deep for bottom-fixed solutions. A 2019 International Energy Agency report stated that offshore wind, including floating wind, has the potential to produce 11-times more electricity than the world needs. Additionally, floating offshore wind can produce clean hydrogen fuel, desalinate seawater, and decarbonize industries.

Within RE:WIND 2022 Adam Cronin, Head of Offshore at DP Energy, will present the topic “Floating wind — challenges and opportunities.” Mauro Piasere, Robotics, Digital and Industrialized Solutions Director at Saipem, is also among the speakers and will present the topic “Offshore new energies — driving offshore renewable energy growth.”

As the industry is young, there are no standardized systems of construction floating offshore wind platforms and every company uses different approaches. At the same time, a typical platform can be manufactured at scale, which will reduce the cost and make offshore platforms viable.

Meanwhile, talking about a typical platform, it can be manufactured at scale to make offshore platforms viable by reducing the cost.

By standardizing a set of solutions for floating wind, competitive full-scale floating wind farms are developed, demonstrating that floating offshore wind is deployable at scale, in different geographies, and cost effective with local adaptability to the supply chain. Jon Kippenes, Senior Business Development Manager at Fred Olsen Seawind, will talk about floating offshore wind and how to develop a supply chain. Christoph Knop, Head of Commercial Floating Offshore Wind at EnBW AG, will present the topic “Floating wind: pathway to commercialization.”
