Presidents Corner: by Joe Arnold

The Great Western half marathon, sponsored by our sister organization, the Fox River Trail Runners, took place in almost ideal weather on May 7. Feedback on the quality of the race from runners was universally excellent. In reviewing the organization and support for this race, it was interesting to see that a significant portion of the help, if not most, was provided by dual Lisle Windrunner members. Foremost was Winston Rasmussen as race director who, as usual, planned and executed all activities in detail. He was followed by 19 more dual Windrunner volunteers that were active in all phases of the race operation and 16 Windrunners who ran the race and performed very well. Congratulations to all of these Windrunner participants. All of this speaks very well of our club’s dedication to the sport.

Thanks also to Jerry Dattilo for fine newsletters, Fred Fedewa who is organizing unique social events and John Quinton for presiding over the May 8th meeting.

Let’s keep it up, JA.

Many thanks to the 24 stalwart runners that drove down to southern Illinois to compete in the annual River-to-River 80 mile marathon. This carries on a Windrunner tradition that extends back 17 years and will continue in the future as long as the race is held. The results are included in this newsletter and on the website, (with photographs!) Congratulations to all - and mark April 21, 2007 on your calendars for the next edition.

What’s New: by Jerry Dattilo

Special congratulations to Stephen Skegg who won his age group at the March Madness half-marathon!

Upcoming Events:

bullet Sunday April 9th – The Race That’s Good for Life 5K. This will be the 25th year for this competitive 5k race which is on our race circuit.
bullet Wednesday April 19th We will meet at 6:30 pm at Passero’s Pizza (Route 53 & Maple) for a Pre River to River planning meeting.

Presidents Corner: by Joe Arnold

We made it through a mild winter again and officially moved our Saturday training route back to Herrick Lake on March 18, two weeks early. Now the 2006 racing schedule has started with the Cary half-marathon and we move into the home stretch for River-to-River preparation. We barely have runners for three relay teams after starting with a nice surplus for the first time in my memory. We will work out the final details over the next few Saturdays and finally on Wednesday evening, April 19, at Passeros Pizza. Now is also the time to set up your competitive racing schedule, register for races through April and May and buy a new pair of training/racing shoes. Like Spring training, hope is at its zenith now - so enjoy. Hope to see you at Passero’s.

Last Saturday's 10 mile training run at Fermilab turned out successfully. Eleven runners showed up and ran the old course that Windrunners had run for 10 years before 9/11 shut everything down. Afterward eight of us stayed for showers and breakfast in the Wilson Hall restaurant. All agreed that we should schedule another run there this summer along with one at Argonne's Waterfall Glen.
