If you have not yet signed up for a volunteer position for the race please plan to do so at our meeting.

For those of you who have been kind enough to e-mail me with your race results, Thank You.  This makes it much easier to compile the Race Results for the newsletter.

Upcoming Events:

  • Saturday August 26th The Dekalb Cornfest 10K circuit race
  • Sunday August 27thThe Windrunner 10K race at Danada.  Bring lots of friends – we need all the volunteers we can get!

Presidents Corner: by Joe Arnold

Thanks to Jean and Mark Perle we had a fine picnic in their vast backyard last Sunday. Also congratulations to their graduating son, Colin, who will be entering IIT next year to major in mechanical engineering. Good luck, Colin.

We are now into the dog days of summer with high temperatures and humidity behind and in front of us.. We found out Saturday that running at Herrick Lake was not quite as much fun as usual with several runners, myself included, cutting their runs short or moving at a much slower pace than usual – then taking a long time to recover. Everybody knows to hydrate more before, during and after a high temp/humidity run, but sometimes the severity of the weather is still a surprise. With several days this next week forecast to be about 100 degrees with high humidity, take a day or two or three off from running. Go for an indoor workout or a swim or a walk in the evening. It’s much nicer to be healthy than to suffer and risk an injury.

Stay healthy, JA
